Adriano Panatta He was for a long time the only Italian player to have won a Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era. From Roland Garros 1976 the fast continued until the Australian Open 2024 when Jannik Sinner lifted the trophy in Melbourne in the first Slam of this calendar year.
Adriano Panatta – who has long lived in Treviso where he also founded a sports club that bears his name, the “Adriano Panatta Racquet Club” – was interviewed by TG Plus Sport Treviso in Jesolo, on the occasion of the third stage of 2024 of the itinerant tour “A Champion in the Family”.
An initiative in which over 150 children, accompanied by their families, had the opportunity to meet and spend a few hours of play and lightheartedness in the company of athletes who have made the history of Italian sport.
And among them was Adriano Panatta.
It was also an opportunity to take stock of the current situation of Italian tennis, and how much the example of Jannik Sinner.
Adriano Panatta: “Tennis? I think it can’t get any better than this”
Tennis in Italy has had a significant revival thanks to Jannik Sinner: “There was no need for a champion like him just for tennis – Panatta said – but in general in Italian sport every time a comes out athlete, in any discipline, who has a behavior that is a great example even for the youngest is a beautiful signal of what sport can do, that is, bring together and bring passion to kids to play more and more sport”.
On how he sees Italian tennis in the future, Panatta was decidedly explicit in his response to the press present in Jesolo: “Well I see it well, I think that It can’t get any better than this, we have many players at the top of the world rankings. It’s difficult to get better than this, it hasn’t happened for many years.”
