Tom Pidcock he’s ready for his third Tour de France. The runner of Ineos Grenadiers he will show up at the start in Florence on June 29th ready to fight to try to repeat the stage success obtained in 2022, when he won the queen stage with the arrival on Alpe d’Huez. Given the characteristics of the first stages of this year’s Grande Boucle, especially the inaugural stage which features seven Mountain Grand Prix in the 205 kilometers between the Tuscan capital and Rimini, the British runner’s great dream is to wear for the first time the Yellow Jersey in his career.
“The first stages this year present a real possibility, but obviously there will be many riders aiming for the Yellow Jersey,” declares Pidcock. The Leeds native will be part of a roster that, in addition to the designated captain Carlos Rodriguezis full of racers of the highest caliber, including two already winners of the French GT, i.e Egan Bernal And Geraint Thomas.
A team so well equipped can only be an advantage for a rider like the Olympic MTB champion, who will be able to count on the support of his teammates in the assault on stage victories: “The preparation for the Tour this year went very well and I feel like I’m in an excellent condition before the start – comments the winner of the latest edition of the Amstel Gold Race – We have chosen a team that will allow us to have opportunities to race in a way that for me and the team is very exciting. I’ve already won a stage in the Tour before and it’s really something I’d like to do again because that was one of the best days I’ve had on a bike.”
The 24-year-old arrives at the start of the Tour after having been in excellent shape at the Tour of Switzerland, finishing in sixth place in the general classification and in which he has always been in the group of the best in all the mountain stages: “After having done a training block at altitude and then after returning to running at the Tour of Switzerland I was improving day by dayin the time trial I had the best day, and it’s an encouraging score and definitely the direction I want to go in right now. I can’t wait for my third Tour to start“.
