The 2024/2025 sporting season will officially open on 1 July, and it will already be a date to celebrate for the Rugby Lyons club: the young Filippo Isola has been called up for the first seasonal meeting of the Under 18 national team. The scrum half of the team Under 18 Juventus thus enters the group selected by coach Paolo Grassi in view of next season: the Azzurri technical staff has in fact called up 30 athletes from the 2007 season to begin preparing for next year’s events, which will culminate in the Six Nations Festival in category. The retreat will be held in L’Aquila in the first week of July, giving the boys the opportunity to become familiar with each other and begin to set up group work for the upcoming new season.

Now a few days to pack and then Filippo’s blue adventure will begin, which we hope will be long and full of satisfaction. “In the days preceding the call, during the meeting at the Academy in Milan – says the young Juventus player – they had warned me that there was a high possibility of being called up to the meeting, although they still left me with the unofficial news. It was therefore a great surprise that brought me great satisfaction on a personal level and as an athlete.” Last season Filippo established himself as an important element of the Under 18 Emilbanca Rugby Lyons team, gaining excellent playing time despite being in his first year in the category and having to face opponents two years older than him. Under the guidance of the Technical Staff of Jacopo Salvetti, Fabio Bergamaschi and Daniele Mozzani Isola managed to express himself at his best, alternating in the role of scrum half with the more experienced Flavio Viti, a boy born in 2005 who made his debut in the first team. The most important moment of the season was certainly the decisive try scored at Beltrametti against Pesaro, for a victory that gave the Bianconeri second place in the inter-regional championship.

Filippo also spoke about his game, and what he expects from this upcoming Azzurri adventure: “As a scrum half my role is to give continuity and organization to the game based on the different factors determined by the opposing defence, in such a way as to coordinate together with the fly-half the two types of roles in the game of rugby, i.e. forward and three-quarters. They tell me that this is one of my main characteristics, that is, excellent vision of the game combined with good passing. Despite having been assigned to this role purely as a director, and therefore a little outside the more combative side of rugby, I also really like getting my hands dirty by covering the role of a forward for brief moments, so much so that to my great joy I was used as a third line a couple of times during the championship.”
