Achille Polonara was interviewed by Tuttosport. The main theme is the one relating to the national team, but the Italian also returned to talk about his season and what happened after the World Cup. “Especially at the beginning it was very difficult. When you hear that you have to have surgery and also that it’s cancer, it takes a hit. But now it’s just a bad memory. I’ll have to have check-ups every few months, but without treatment. But the situation is getting better. I hope in the future it will only be about a memory”, says Polonara. “No fear of dying, the doctors immediately reassured me. But fear of having to stop playing, yes. I said to myself, “this is my time”. Luckily for me, both Virtus and the teams from the various hospitals in Bologna they were very close to me, they were kind, they tolerated me asking question after question and they reassured me, “you’ll see that with the chemo you’ll be out for a few weeks”.
Achille Polonara has no doubts about the future. “At the beginning I struggled as if I had been off for six months, the others were going twice as fast as me. I had no resistance, but I knew it would take time”, he continues. “The market rumors for Virtus? In general I can say that now in this professionalism everyone looks around and follows market events. Contracts are less binding than they used to be. But I’m tied to Virtus, I feel great and hope to stay a long time“
