Jannik Sinner And Matteo Berrettini will be under the spotlight this afternoon, Thursday 20 Juneas they are engaged in the second round of theATP 500 in Halle 2024. The Azzurri are completing the run-in during the swing on the grass, with a fixed and significant thought: to arrive in the best possible conditions to compete at Wimbledon, with at least a semi-final to be confirmed for the South Tyrolean and a sweet memory to replicate for the Roman. Not just Sinner and Berrettini, however, because on this day full of sporting events there is also room for other Italians; a total of five events are scheduled with Italian tennis players starring on European lawns, between Halle and London.
Sinner, Berrettini and more: the Italians on the field today
Jannik Sinner will have the burden of leading the Italian group on stage today between Germany and England, challenging the Hungarian Fabian Maroszan on the OWL Arena of Halle. After the debut full of twists and turns with Tallon Griekspoor, a herbivore who put the world number one in difficulty, the native of San Candido will open the Italians’ program in singles on green during the early afternoon: an event scheduled as the second match on the Centrale starting from 12.00, at the end of Hurkacz-Duckworth. Immediately after the conclusion of the confrontation between Sinner and Maroszan, the latter Hungarian with many tactical solutions in his repertoire, it will be the turn of Matteo Berrettini do his duty on the Teutonic grass; the class of ’96 will challenge the American Marcos Giron, fresh from surprising Andrey Rublev on his debut. The only precedent did not smile on Berrettini, defeated in Paris-Bercy in 2020, but it involved other playing conditions (indoor hard court) and above all another Matteo. Finally, on stage Lorenzo Musetti in the London scenario: al Queen’sCarrarino will be involved against Brandon Nakashima late afternoon. The match between the Italian and the American is scheduled to close the schedule of the Queen’s Tournament starting from 1.00 pm, after Mpetshi Perricard-Harris. Not an easy match for Musetti, who was however galvanized by the significant victory over Alex De Minaur on his debut on the English lawn.
Double blues and… hybrids in Halle
Simone Bolelli will pair with Andrea Vavassori in Germany, as usual, during the quarter-finals of the relevant tournament. The Azzurri, after easily overcoming the pair formed by Pedro Martinez Oleksandr Nedovyesov in the first round, will have to deal with Arthur Phils And Alexander Bublik (from 12.00 on Court 1) for a place in the semi-final: this is an absolutely unpredictable match, considering the creative and unconventional tennis offered by the French-Kazakh duo. The Italian pair starts with the underdogs, as does the hybrid one made up of local talent Jannik Sinner and by his Polish friend and colleague Hubert Hurkaczas opposed to specialists Reboul/Doumbia; the match will take place as the third and last event scheduled on Court 1, during the long German afternoon. Double commitment for Jannik, therefore: between smiles and accelerations, the number one wants to show his value in view of Wimbledon.
