Indoor Beach Volleyball: Paolo Bina and Alberto Candela world champions Over 60

Two people from Cuneo on the top of the world in beach volleyball: they are Paolo Bina and Alberto Candela, who climbed to the top step of the podium at the indoor world championships held in Milan, in the Over 60 category. The great event, which also included indoor volleyball, saw the participation of over 400 athletes representing 29 nations. A stage of great prestige in which Bina and Candela triumphed without knowing any setbacks in their splendid ride.

The two from Cuneo started by beating Hungary 21-17, Lithuania 21-9 and the strong Germany, seeded number 1, with a very tight 25-24 at the “killer point” in the qualifying round. In the quarter-finals the Italians clearly beat Switzerland, finalists in 2022, with scores of 21-17 and 21-15, while in the semi-final they found themselves facing Spain, overcome thanks to a great comeback in the first set (from 15-20 to 23-21) and a second set won 21-17. Then the final, where Bina and Candela once again faced the Germans who had already been beaten in the group: a very tight match, played point to point, with the Cuneo team managing to win the first set by coming from behind 21-19 and then also prevailing in the second with the score 21-17.

Beautiful and well-deserved gold for Paolo and Alberto, who at the end of the last point let themselves go with emotion for a goal achieved without losing a single set, with matches played at the limit of perfection, the result of the long and hard work done to prepare this competition. The icing on the cake was also an individual award for Paolo Bina, elected MVP of the Master category. “But I want to express deep gratitude for my partner Alberto, who played all the matches impeccably, putting us in a position to win this award”, commented Bina.
