Tour of Switzerland 2024, the revelation Matthew Riccitello: “It was tough, I’ve always dreamed of racing at this level, it gives me a lot of motivation”

The revelation of this Tour of Switzerland 2024 it was without a doubt Matthew Riccitello. The young American climber ended the short Swiss stage race in fifth place overall, collecting a string of excellent top placings. The 22 year old from Israel-Premier Tech he also managed to finish second in the ranking reserved for young people and is a candidate to be one of the champions of the future. Interviewed by us after the stage, Riccitello talked about himself and his surprising week on the roads and climbs of Switzerland.

Another great day for you?
“Yes, but it was hard. Maybe I started out too ambitious because I started the climb very strong and towards the end I was descending. However, I’m happy with how it went. The goal today was to try and take the white jersey, but Skjelmose went a little too fast. It was still a good stage, except that he went faster today.”

What have you learned this week and what do you expect from the future?
“Overall I’m happy with how the week went. It’s a good start, I’ve always dreamed of racing at this level with these guys I’m battling with now. It feels really good to have been able to stay in this position for the last two days. It gives me a lot of motivation to keep going and I can’t wait for the rest of the season.”
