It’s May 29th when to ISIS City of Luino the final of the internal volleyball tournament is played.
They are the ones who challenge each other 5th SIA of the headquarters and the 4th EL of the associated venue, after an exciting match by both teams, the match sees the 5th SIA come out on top 2 sets to 0.
He also plays in the winning team Matteo Ghidinione of the institute representatives, who together with his partner and another student representative, Elisa Luicini proposes the idea of launching a challenge at the nearby Sereni High School. The two representatives also inform the other two colleagues (Kiss Mihai And Marwa Mouatami) and the head teacher (Christmas Bevacqua) of the idea. They will be thrilled. The challenge is launched and the high school accepts by generously inviting the opposing team to play the match in the Sereni gym.
Thus was born the first edition of the “Luino Derby“, a project that aims to become a healthy and sporting tradition among Luino schools. As Ghidini, Lucini, Kiss and Mouatami state: “We hope that the Luino Derby can become a sort of end-of-year rite among the Luino institutes and that it involves all the students, players and not, creating that sense of belonging and of pride towards one’s school which keeps students together and which we have seen vanish after Covid. We therefore hope that next year and in the years to come, when we have finished school, this event can be repeated, becoming a tradition.”
June 7th arrives, the decisive day. The 5th grade team and their classmates go to the high school gym, accompanied by their teacher Federico Marsicothey are waiting for them in the stands all fifth graderswhile on the pitch there is 5C, a very tough and insidious opponent.
The match begins and against all odds the 5th SIA takes the lead by 2 sets to 0 (the match is a best of 5). However, the ISIS boys lose their clarity in the third and fourth sets and the high school students don’t let it escape the opportunity to make a comeback. The score is now 2 sets all.
The moment of the fifth set arrives, it is played at 15 and not at 25 like the previous ones, the two teams go hand in hand, really playing a magnificent match. At 14 to 13 for ISIS, Sereni has the ball, unfortunately the serve goes beyond the baseline, effectively handing the first edition of the “Luino Derby” to ISIS Città di Luino Carlo Volontè.
Representatives of both institutes are keen to to thank the managers, the professors who supported them in this project, but above all the students who got involved despite not practicing volleyball as a sport, allowing this event to be held really special.
