Kawasaki enters MotoGP? For now he is leaving SBK to (re)launch Bimota with Alex Lowes – MOW

The name of the rider that Kawasaki and Bimota have chosen for the historic “handover” in the production derivatives was made official in Misano, during the Superbike weekend. This is Alex Lowes and the decision is clearly in the name of continuity. Kawasaki’s move, however, suggests that we are unlikely to see the brand again in MotoGP

Jorge Viegas, president of the FIM, said it clearly in the exclusive MOW interview held yesterday in the Misano paddock: “In MotoGP we will see the entry of new brands”. One of the rules circulating is that of Kawasaki, but the Japanese giant, for now, seems to have very different intentions with respect to everything related to speed: to give way. Already at the Marco Simoncelli World Circuit in Misano the rumors that had been circulating for some time about the possibility of a farewell to Superbike by Kawasaki, after years of glorious victories, began to become certainty. It is unlikely that in the future we will see the greenbacks among the curbs of the top championship dedicated to production-based derivatives.

MIf there are no longer Kawasakis in Superbike, there will still be Kawasakis. Said like this, it’s a bit ambiguous, but that’s exactly what it is, given that another glorious speed brand will take up the legacy of the greenbacks: Bimota. This is a real handover, as team manager Guim Roda also explained yesterday: “The BbKRT project is a natural extension of the success that KRT has cultivated in recent years. We want to continue with a solid structure next season and we have the next challenges to achieve with the BbKRT project. We need all our best tools to get it right.”

NoIt is no coincidence, therefore, that we have chosen to already announce the “new old driver” for next season. It will be Alex Lowes, who is achieving good results with Kawasaki in 2024 and who will wear the colors of Bimota from next year, keeping his entire team substantially intact. “With Alex – continued Rosa – we are on a great journey. We started in times of Covid, in a difficult season, and in ’21 and ’22 he suffered several injuries that did not allow him to show his true potential, but However, in those years he showed his speed and other qualities. Now it’s time to rise to a new level.”

Important ambitions, therefore, and a choice about the future that Alex Lowes and Kawasaki have pursued together, even if the British rider prefers, at the moment, to talk about the present. A present which, needless to say, is called Misano. “I’m very focused on this race – he explained – It’s a circuit that I really like, we did a test here recently and I feel strong on the bike. We will work hard, we will concentrate and we will see what results we can achieve this weekend, also to best celebrate the signing of the project with Bimota. This opportunity came at the right time for me. Together with Bimota, Kawasaki is putting a lot of effort into this new project. I hope that my experience can contribute to starting from the best possible position with the new bike.”
