«THERE IS NO BIG DIFFERENCE WITH A PROFESSIONAL RACE»

At Pian della Mussa he had tried to move early, while today, going up towards Fosse, Alessandro Pinarello he adopted a slightly more conservative strategy which ultimately earned him a Top 10, relaunching him into the top 10 in the general rankings as well.

The impression is that the Treviso native from Giavera del Montello still has room to try to best crown his Giro Next Gen: «The first hour, as they say, we “glided” – admitted Pinarello immediately after arrival -. We took the first climb at an average of 53 km/h, then until the breakaway started we continued to go in spurts and counter-sprints and then the race became more controlled. We faced the last climb very strong despite the 170 km on our legs and I honestly didn’t expect it.”

The standard bearer of VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè he is now used to competing with professionals too, but in terms of interpretation and level this Giro Next Gen is no different: «The difference between this race and a professional one is not that much, the average speed is there to prove it – he said again -. I’m not entirely happy with the sensations I felt, I was hoping for something better, but given how the race turned out I can’t complain about the result. It’s true, perhaps I’m better suited to slightly shorter and more explosive climbs, but when I feel good I can go fast even on climbs like these, even faster than that.”

The arrivals of Zocca and Forlimpopoli, however, could smile on his face: «Yes, they are two stages that in my opinion will still go away at very high averages. Let’s try to see if anything interesting comes up; I expect the last one in particular to be very chaotic, I know those streets and something could happen. The season is still long, and whatever happens there will be a way to still get some satisfaction.”
