Nadal gives up on Wimbledon and flies to Bastad

You always return to where you had a good time. And Rafael Nadal in Paris, on the red clay of Roland Garros, has always felt more than comfortable. Nobody loves that surface more than him and for this reason he can’t wait to return there to play in the Olympics. The choice to go there, where there is a statue of him at the entrance, has consequences: the first is that Rafa will not play Wimbledon this year.

THE WORDS

“The best thing for my body is not to change surfaces and continue playing on clay until then. This is why I will miss playing Wimbledon this year. I am saddened that this year I will not be able to experience the fantastic atmosphere of that extraordinary event which will always be in my heart. I will miss all of you,” the 22-time Slam champion writes on social media. The programming innovations, however, do not end here. Nadal will play the ATP 250 in Bastad, which will be held from 15 to 21 July.

THE RICH ENTRY LIST

The Swedish tournament, therefore, will be richer than ever. In view of the Games, many top players have chosen the land of the North for preparation. Jannik Sinner was announced as one of the entrants to the tournament, as were two former champions in Sweden such as Andrey Rublev, the defending champion, and Casper Ruud.
