After more than two months since the last time in the group at Paris – Roubaix and after a period of preparation, the Belgian champion aims to put kilometers in his legs in the home competition with the aim of winning a stage and, above all, not taking any risks a few days before the Transalpine GT, his great seasonal goal.
“After Roubaix I didn’t stay still – the Belgian told Spouse on the eve of the Tour of Belgium – I did some training camps, including one in Tenerife. The only thing I’m missing are the kilometers of running ahead of the Tour. In the race I always risk getting injured more than in training. I hope to reach the end of this stage race in good condition and healthy, but I won’t give up trying to win a stage. I will also be able to compare myself with some of the sprinters I will meet in France“.
When asked directly what his objective will be for the Grande Boucle, the winner of four stages in last year’s edition did not hide and threw down his gauntlet: “This year I will race for the Maglia Verde again“.
