Citroen e-C4 – It’s Saturday and it’s therefore time for the classic appointment with a new episode of our ‘Com’è & Come va’: this week it’s the turn of the version version more aggressive and raised, with an SUV coupé design, from the sedan of the French brand. We are talking about the C4 X, available with both thermal and electric engines. The latter is the protagonist of today’s episode.

Size and design

The dimensions of the Citroen e-C4 L’rear habitability it is good for the two side passengers, who enjoy more than enough space for both their heads and their knees. Although those who are very tall, given the shape of the roof, could suffer a little more. The central passenger has a smaller space, due to a floor that is not completely flat and the cabinet, where there is a USB socket, a USB-C socket and the air conditioning vents. The trunk it is one of the strengths of the French model. Compared to its sister C4, in fact, it gains over 130 liters and reaches a capacity of 510 to 1,350 litres. An important capacity, which allows you to load a large number of bags. Just one note: the mouth is not particularly wide and there is a step, which complicates loading and unloading operations a bit. Under the floor, in the spare wheel compartment, there is a small space where you can store the charging cables.

The design of this model is decidedly distinctive and particular, without compromises. It almost completely reflects that of the C4 at the front, with the V-shaped light signatures, while the side line changes, a mix between a sedan and a fastback, with 18-inch wheels and a ground clearance of over 15 centimetres. The rear is more flattened and elongated, for a length increased by 24 centimetres, compared to the C4. Among other distinctive elements, there is a smaller rear side glass, a larger pillar, the farewell to the central spoiler under the rear window and reinforced bumpers. The rear lights are also in a lower position, while the name of the company is in the center of the tailgate, written in full. At the bottom right, however, we find the name of the car, with the ‘and’ in bluefor this 100% electric version.

Interiors and technology

Space, comfort and technology are in the foreground inside the cabin of the French model, where the screen is immediately noticeable 10-inch central touchscreen and the instrument panel, also digital, 5.5 inches. Let’s start from the first, from which the car’s infotainment is managed. There are all the classic functions, including navigation and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, even in wireless mode. The graphics are classic Leo models, for a clear and quick response system. On the digital dashboard, however, the information available is a bit bare-bones, with consumption only shown if you press the button on the windshield wiper lever. Very useful and clear, however, thehead-up display.

Citroen has always made comfort one of its strong points and the e-C4 X is no exception. THE Advanced Comfort seats, in leather in our version, with two-layer padding, always allow a comfortable and comfortable seat, even if you take longer journeys. There is large space inside, as well as a significant amount of storage compartments, including a removable support for the tablet in front of the passenger seat. There is also automatic climate control, two USB ports (one classic and one USB-C) and the wireless charging plate. Overall, despite the presence of some hard plastic, the environment is pleasant and well finished.

Road test

Now we get behind the wheel of the sedan of the French brand, in our case in the version with 136 horsepower and 260 Nm electric motor of maximum torque. Compared to other zero-emission models, theacceleration it is softer and less immediate. However, it is useful for tackling intersections or overtaking with adequate speed, but without that lightning-fast sprint typical of many electric cars.

On the other hand, Citroen has always put the comfort, with respect to sportiness, and this model is no exception. Starting from the suspension with progressive hydraulic dampers, which allow it to better absorb uneven terrain and bumps encountered along the way. You can barely feel them inside the passenger compartment, thus increasing comfort. As well as thanks to silence of the car. Being an electric, the usual engine noise is missing, but you can’t even hear the rustling or rolling of the tires, even at higher speeds. There is no shortage of it regenerative brakingusing the Brake mode, however there are no paddles on the steering wheel to be able to adjust it to various levels.

The SUV coupe is also particularly agile, despite its large dimensions, thanks to a soft steering wheel and a limited steering angle, thus being able to move without problems in city traffic. Of course, if you want to adopt a slightly sportier driving style, a slightly stiffer steering would certainly have been appreciated but, as we said, Citroen focuses on comfort. However, for those who want a slightly quicker response, there is Sport modealternative to Comfort and Eco, even if the change is less marked than other models.

There rear visibility it is a little limited by the shape of the roof and the large pillar, however there are parking sensors and a rear view camera to facilitate manoeuvres. There is also a package of ADAS first rate, with practically everything already standard, right from the entrance setup. From automatic emergency braking to driver attention, through road sign recognition, lane keeping and classic adaptive cruise control.

Autonomy and charging

A key element of an electric car cannot be missing, namely autonomy. For this version, the French brand has declared a range of between 324 and 374 kilometers, in the WLTP cycle. We, in our test between the city, extra-urban roads and the ring road, managed to travel approximately 330 kilometres with a charge, with a temperature often around 20 degrees, only occasionally turning on the air conditioning. Lower autonomy when using the car on the highwaywith a limit speed: we managed to reach around 200 kilometres.

The 136 HP Citroen e-C4 Reload with domestic socket, AC up to 11 kW and DC up to 100 kW. With the former it takes around 31 hours for a complete charge, for an 11 kW column or Wall Box around 5 hours, while with fast charging you can go from 0 to 80% in around 30 minutes.

The Citroen e-C4 from 38,050 euros for the version with 136 HP electric motor and equal to 41,850 euros for the 156 HP version.

The car is also available with an engine gas 100 or 130 HP, 48 V hybrid with 136 HP and diesel from 130 HP. The thermal versions start from 26,450 euros.
