Sinner speaks after the defeat in Paris: “It was a great match. In the sets he won he played the important points better. I am truly disappointed” (Full audio of the press conference)

It’s not easy to answer journalists’ questions after four of the match lost at the end due to a break in the fifth and if it had been two out of three he would have won. The harsh law of the Slams is a different sport from tennis which is played all year round. Jannik Sinner, visibly disappointed, shows up at the conference directly from Headquarters, without even going to the shower.

“It was a great match. In the sets he won he played the important points better. I’m really disappointed, but it’s part of my growth and process and going back before the tournament I never expected to reach these levels. On the other hand I am disappointed and I can only look forward to try to improve, always do the best I can, and see what I can do in the future in this tournament if we want to see the positive side I have improved since last year, I will have a possibility of playing here again for the Olympics and let’s see how it goes.”

The physique did not cause any problems for Jannik

“I was a bit tense and had cramps, but I managed the situation, I managed it well. It was early in the match and it didn’t worry me. You can’t compare the two of us to the rivalries of the past. When you play against each other they are always important games and it’s good for the game. The winner is happy and the loser tries to find a way to win next time and that’s what I’ll try to do. We know each other well. There is always a certain tension and every time we expect things that ruin the plans made before. I think next time it will be different, we’ll see on which surface, whether it will be best of three, best of five. In the Grand Slam it is always different. I think it’s always an exciting match and I hope to do better next time.”

Now rest, Sinner reiterates, without television

“I enjoy watching tennis, but it’s hard because losing in the semis is hard, if you lose in the first round it’s different. You think I could have been there. After three weeks without playing, getting to play for four hours is positive. Now I think about resting and taking care of my body. That’s my main priority now and then being ready for the grass.”
