Furlani in the final in the long run
No problem for Mattia Furlani, who landed at 8.17 meters on his first attempt and immediately closed his qualification to the final in the men’s long jump (scheduled for Saturday at 8.06pm). The home favourite, silver at the last Indoor World Championships, jumped easily without pushing and finished in third place ahead of the Olympic and world champion Tentoglou (8.14). Taking the stage was the Swiss Simone Ehammer, who flew with 8.41 (best world and seasonal performance). Little luck for Filippo Randazzo, first of the excluded with 7.94 found on the last jump. …And in the men’s 800m!
Thanks to Catalin Tecuceanu (1.44.93), Francesco Pernici(1.45.87), Simone Barontini (1.46.30), all admitted to the semi-final of the men’s 800 meters (Saturday at 7.50pm). A difficult final for Tecuceanu (Fiamme Oro), the seasonal European record holder last May 23rd in Asti, who nevertheless took the pass. The quadruple overtaking by Pernici (Fiamme Gialle) was sensational, closing his heat in 2nd place. And it’s a good tactical read from Barontini (Fiamme Azzurre), also in 2nd place in the fraction.
