So many issues to resolve

Among the numerous topics touched on on the eve of the weekend valid for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the drivers’ market continues to be one of the most discussed once again. Already this week, for example, the renewal of Alex Albon’s contract at Williams was made official, but doubts persist about the future of other drivers in a particular team, thanks to the numerous deadlines expected at the end of this year.

Ocon-Mercedes: not an impossible hypothesis

A situation of uncertainty that also includes Esteban Ocon in Alpine, with the 27-year-old Frenchman who will part ways with the Enstone team at the end of the season. One of his alternatives, which would be a real dream for him, is that of Mercedes.

Another Junior driver

In the 2015a year before his absolute debut in Formula 1, Ocon was included in the program by Toto Wolff Junior of the Anglo-German team, remaining there permanently ever since. This means that the hypothesis of a future with the Brackley team cannot be completely ruled out: I’m still a Mercedes junior and the management part is still Mercedes – he commented to the media – this has not changed since 2015. We’re having a lot of discussions with Gwen Lagrue (Mercedes Young Driver Academy Director, ed.) and also with Toto, and we will decide what is best for me in the future. There are many things at stake, not only the search for a long-term agreement, but also a short-term one. In Formula 1 things can change quickly, but the important thing is to secure a contract as soon as possible. This is a clear objective of mine, as always.”

An objective that is added to that of not repeating what happened in 2019when Ocon did not take part in the world championship in the absence of contracts after his experience in Force India which ended the previous year: I don’t want to pay the price the second time as happened at the end of 2018, which was not a good memory and it was not for performance reasons – he added – I think I’m doing a good job this year too and in the seasons I’ve been in F1, so I deserve to have a place“.
