The MotoGP rider market has come alive with important official announcements such as Martin-Aprilia and Marquez-Ducati, now we are waiting to find out the next movements. One of the names that can change teams in 2025 is Joan Mir, who is facing another disastrous year with Honda and who we are unlikely to see again in HRC colours. The RC213V was again uncompetitive in the last grand prix at Mugello, where the team had also carried out a test a few weeks earlier, and the situation is truly complicated for the two-time world champion. There are no signs of recovery that would generate optimism for the future.
MotoGP, Mir: future still uncertain
Rightly, the former Suzuki rider is looking around to relaunch his career: “Probably in Assen – reports Crash.net – I will need to have a clearer picture of what I want to do. I have to have all the options on the table to be able to decide, I still don’t know where I want to go. I’ll wait until I have all the offers, then I’ll make a choice“.
Mir doesn’t have much choice for 2025 and he admitted it very sincerely: “When I arrived at Honda I had many offers. Now that’s no longer the case, I have to wait for other riders who now have priority because they are getting results. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past“. Today he finds himself in the situation of having to wait for other people’s moves, because he is no longer considered a top rider, this is a status that can be lost in a short time if results are lacking.
Joan like Marc Marquez?
The Majorcan rider has only raced with official teams since he joined MotoGP, but in 2025 he could start again with a satellite team to relaunch himself. A path like the one taken by Marc Marquez, who by leaving Honda for Gresini Racing returned to the top and earned a place in the Ducati factory team for the next two years: “I spoke with Marc many times – says Joan – about how he felt last year and how he feels now. That’s an example of a line I can follow, another is to stay at Honda“.
For Mir’s future, two possible options could be the Aprilia of the Trackhouse team, where he would find Davide Brivio, or the Ducati of the Gresini team in Marquez’s place. It is also unclear what Pramac (today closer to Yamaha than to the renewal with Ducati) and KTM Tech3 will do (one saddle seems destined for Enea Bastianini, the other is yet to be assigned). There are some good places. The withdrawal hypothesis does not seem to be contemplated: “No – replied the pilot – I don’t think I’ll go home. Maybe I’ll think about it later, but if I move away from this difficult situation and become competitive again, my mind changes completely“. We wish Joan to get out of the current situation and relaunch his career.
