Arianna Errigo scores a hat trick and wins her third career gold at the European Championships. After the 2016-2017 double, the Monza native once again became European Champion in Basel at the end of a sensational comeback in the final against the Ukrainian Dariia Myroniuk. The Italian flag-bearer at Paris 2024 makes a sensational comebackrecovering from a six-hit deficit (4-10), posting a sensational run of 11-0, which thus gave her the gold medal.
A victory marked by suffering, like the one experienced in the semi-final against the British Carolina Stutchbury. A very complicated assault and won by Errigo only at the last thrust 15-14. For Stutchbury, however, a historic bronze, given that Great Britain returns to the European podium after the last time in 1983. The other bronze went to the Polish Juli Walczyk Klimaszyk.
This European title is certainly the best viaticum for Errigo in view of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The only title missing from Arianna’s showcase is gold at the Olympics and the Lombard girl will certainly be among the main favorites for the final victory even in a month in France.
Compared to the incredible and historic poker of the last edition, this time only one Italian medalist. Unfortunately in the quarterfinals there was the derby between Arianna Errigo and Martina Favaretto. An assault that saw the Italian standard-bearer always in command at Paris 2024, eventually finishing with a score of 15-9.
