Basketball, Italy: Pozzecco’s squad, Gallinari returns to the blue team

Less than a month after the start of pre-Olympic in Puerto Rico (from 2 to 7 July), the Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco has drawn up a list of 30 players who will take part in the activities in summer 2024. From this list, the coach will choose on Thursday 6 June the 18 Azzurri who will meet in Trento from 9 to 13 June. Five days of training that will have a dual purpose: to start working on the group that will fly to San Juan before including the players from Milan and Bologna, while at the same time involving some of the most interesting young people on the Italian scene.

Gallinari returns

As expected there is the return of Gallinari. Out is the injured Fontecchio and by choice Belinelli and Hackett. Summoned Dame Sarr, a very promising young player already in the first team at Barcelona. The facility remains that of the latest international tournaments.

Two friendlies before the pre-Olympic

The Training Camp will take place in Folgaria from 14 to 21 June. Two friendlies are scheduled before the move to the Caribbean: Sunday 23 June in Trento against Georgia and Tuesday 25 June in Madrid against coach Sergio Scariolo’s Spain. On June 26th the flight to Miami, where the Azzurri will undergo two days of training before moving permanently to San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico and home of the pre-Olympic tournament. After the debut against Bahrain (2 July) the match against the hosts (4 July). In case of passage of the semi-final and eventual final round with the first two classified in the group which includes Lithuania, Mexico and Ivory Coast.
