The appointment is set for tomorrow, Tuesday 4 June. Jannik Sinner will be the protagonist in quarter-finals of Roland Garros 2024. The 22 year old from Pustertal will have to overcome the obstacle represented by the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (seeded no. 10). A fascinating challenge between two different ways of understanding tennis: on the one hand Jannik’s modernity, with shots of rare power from the baseline; on the other one of the last representatives of the all-court game.
Sinner comes to this challenge after having to beat the host Corentin Moutet. A complicated match for the South Tyrolean, forced to come back. A bad first set had fueled some concern, especially the way the ATP No. 2 had gone into confusion. However, Jannik did well to find the right path again, easily managing his opponent in the remaining fractions.
Meeting with Dimitrov, therefore, not simple. The Bulgarian prevailed convincingly against the Polish Hubert Hurkacz and is in excellent athletic condition. This last aspect could make the difference on earth. In everyone’s memory there is the last precedent of the Final won by Sinner against Grigor in Miami, but on clay it could be a different story.
