SAN BENEDETTO – The Italian national rugby team returns to pay homage to San Benedetto for the third consecutive year and this time it does so with the flagship of its youth sector: the Italian Under 20 team. Coach Roberto Santamaria’s fifteen, in fact, on Saturday On 15 June (kick-off at 6pm) they will face Spain of the same age for the last test match before leaving for South Africa, where from 29 June they will be involved in the Under 20 Rugby World Cup.
The value
«For us this is the most important match of the preparation period for the world championship event – said Santamaria – in which we will face Ireland, Australia and Georgia. I hope the city responds in a big way because we will need to feel the warmth and push of the public. We were struck by the involvement and enthusiasm of the children in the schools we visited.” The event that will take place at Campo Mandela (debut of a national team in the renovated facility of the Agraria district) is organized by the Rugby Samb Union of president Edoardo Spinozzi. «We are proud to host a national team in San Benedetto for the third consecutive year – he declared – and moreover in our field, where we will welcome the Italians who are the flagship of the rugby federation. We were with them on a promotional tour in the schools of the city and in the area and we were welcomed everywhere with great warmth.”
The commitment
Mayor Antonio Spazzafumo recalled how «We strongly wanted this match and we went to the federation in Rome to carry out a blitz to loudly ask for another national team match. I hope it can be a beautiful match, with the hope of still seeing the blue colors excel.” The conclusions are from the sports councilor Cinzia Campanelli. «We will host the Italian national team at Mandela, the flagship of sports facilities and I must say that I fell in love with this sport, which has respect, education and sacrifice among its values, as well as team spirit, values that I cannot find in many other sports.” Also present were the scrum half Lorenzo Casilio, the team manager Andrea Saccà and some players.
