Hundred We count the hours until the long-awaited arrival Tour of Italy, which will stop in Cento next Friday and which has generated so much pink jersey frenzy in the city of Guercino. In a land passionate about two wheels, where Ciclistica Centese and Stella Alpina di Renazzo have cultivated a love for the track and the road, making experienced men available to the young people of these plains and also producing talent, the arrival of the pink caravan is an event that touches the deepest chords. Those that overcome the support for the champion of the moment, which is also not lacking, starting from the dominator Tadej Pogacar up to emerging talent Antonio Tiberi. In short, a historic moment for Cento and the many cycling enthusiasts, who will flock in many even from outside the city to witness a stage finish, which represents the culmination of long work, as the mayor explained in the press conference Edoardo Accorsihis deputy and sports councilor Vito Salatiellothe councilor for productive activities Filippo Taddia and the commander of the municipal police Fabrizio Balderi.

Accorsi opened the conference by thanking all those who collaborated in the organization, starting from the numerous local sponsors, who helped, together with the region Emilia Romagna, to cover the living expenses of the event, explaining among other things the difficulties encountered: «Even if it is called the Giro d’Italia, it does not pass everywhere along the country and the reason is simple, given that each stage brings with it an impressive number of people and structures, which must be managed as best as possible and safely. Not an easy task, which can only be accomplished with months and months of hard work on the part of the entire city, which sees this event as a unique opportunity.”

In fact, there will be thousands of people who will cross the doors of Cento, to witness the arrival of the cyclists, not to mention the 190 countries in the world that will be connected via TV: a spot of global dimensions, making Cento an international tourist destination. But, as mentioned, such a huge amount of people arriving also requires impeccable organisation, with the inevitable inconveniences for residents, who are called upon to respect the established traffic regulations.

Commander Balderi explains this delicate aspect: «We ask for patience and understanding for the inconveniences that the changes will cause to traffic, but it was inevitable to close some roads and impose a parking ban in some areas, for everyone’s safety. Already on Thursday, from 5pm, there will be a ban on parking in the passage section of the Giro, together with some neighboring areas (piazzale Bonzagni, piazzale 7 Fratelli Govoni, piazzale Donatori di Sangue, via Falzoni Gallerani, Ponte Reno, via Primo Maggio, via IV November, via Malagodi and obviously via Ferrarese). The bans will be active until Friday at 11pm, when everything is expected to be concluded.”

Then the word passed to the deputy mayor Salatiello, who recounted all the events that characterized the wait for the arrival of the tour, as well as those that will follow: «In October we had two book presentations, an evening in honor of Gino Bartali on the day of remembrance, on March 8th a ride centered on Alfonsina Strada, on April 13th a ride organized by the municipal council of young people, on the 17th the presentation of the stage at Pandurera with Davide Cassani And Marino Bartolettifinally the setting up of the square with the swings painted by the boys and last Saturday’s evening with Dino Zandegù. They will be there on Thursday Morena Tartagli And Learco Guerra Jr, with the first pink jersey. The bike tour initiative, which involves the setting up of a guarded point for bicycles, with refreshment organized by the Pro Loco of Cento and a discount for those who shop in the centre’s activities”.

Therefore, the Giro will not just be a sporting event, but a real party, with an impact of hundreds of thousands of euros, as explained by councilor Taddia: «When we think about these events, we must not limit ourselves to thinking about the tourists who will stay on the same day, but all those who will return, not having time to enjoy the city during the arrival of the Giro stage, but above all those who will come after having seen Cento on live television from all over the world, together with the special insights that national TVs are broadcasting during this period. Precisely for this reason we are proud of the involvement of all the local activities, which have demonstrated that they have understood the importance of this opportunity for the city”.

Finally, Accorsi rattled off some numbers regarding the people involved: «There will be many units in the field from all the associations and law enforcement agencies: 46 agents, 68 civil protection units, 28 from the Carabinieri association and 37 volunteers from various associations. There will be almost 200 journalists who will have their focal point at the Benedetto building.” L
