A duel between SD Worx Protime and Lidl-Trek is once again announced for the 27th edition of the Freccia Vallone Femmes which will take place today over a distance of 146 km starting from Huy and finishing at the top of the Huy Wall.
The underdogs go to the Dutch Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) who scored a fabulous hat-trick in the Ardennes last year, but this season they haven’t yet managed to raise their arms to the sky. The competition is certainly important, starting with the Italian Lidl Trek duo formed by Gaia Realini and Elisa Longo Borghini. At SD Worx-Protime at the last moment the world champion Lotte Kopecky decided to run in support of Vollering – in the original plans she should have rested in view of Liège – her and her presence will inevitably affect the race.
Among the most anticipated protagonists are the 2022 winner Marta Cavalli and her teammate Avoid Muzic (FDJ-Suez) and the Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon Sram Racing), the latter returning from a splendid second place in the Tour of Flanders. Spotlight also on Ashleigh Moolman (AG Insurance-Soudal Team) who is preparing to face her fourteenth Arrow: the 38-year-old South African has finished in the top 7 ten times, obtaining two podiums (second place in 2018 and third in 2013). «I hope that this could be the right time – she said yesterday – also because the weather forecast speaks of adverse weather and therefore ideal for me».
Instead, the promising 21-year-old Dutch girl will be participating for the first time Fem van Empel, two-time cyclocross world champion, who will be the spearhead of Visma Lease a Bike.
A first time also for the time slot: the women’s race, in fact, will start and end after the men’s with the start expected at 1.55pm and the conclusion just before 6pm.
