Former Syracuse offensive lineman Joe More signs with SEC school

Syracuse, NY — Former Syracuse football offensive lineman Joe More has found a new home for his final year of collegiate eligibility.

Blackberries https://twitter.com/Joe78More/status/1785096989580951609, he announced on X, formerly known on Twitter, on Monday night. He’d entered the transfer portal Friday.

In his season with the Orange, More appeared in just three games at right guard after suffering a lower-body injury ahead of the season opener. He was listed as the team’s starter on the Game 1 depth chart despite that.

During spring ball, More (6-foot-5, 306 pounds) seemed a contender to re-earn a spot on the Orange’s depth chart under the new coaching staff. He played some at center in addition to guard. He did not, however, start in the team’s spring game.

“When (offensive line) coach (Dale) Williams came in, he was like, ‘I don’t care what anyone played last year, who started, who didn’t start. This is my O-line now, so all five positions are up for grabs,’” More said during spring ball. “You can definitely tell a difference in a lot of if not most of the guys on the O-line just really competing for spots at different positions they haven’t played before. We’re all getting mixed around. Since no one knows what’s going on, everyone’s really playing their heart out right now.”

More, who’s from Franklin, Tennessee, transferred to Syracuse from the University of Richmond ahead of the 2023 season. He appeared in 41 games there.

Offensive line has been one of the positions Syracuse has added the most depth via the portal during Fran Brown’s roster flip. A few of the new additions already earned depth chart spots in spring ball, including Da’Metrius Weatherspoon and Josh Miller.

More is the first former Orange player thus far who left during the second transfer portal window to find a new program to play for. Syracuse has lost six players since the spring window opened April 15. It closes Tuesday.
