Decisive step to recover a long-abandoned sports facility in Ponticelli. The Municipality of Naples has started the tender to entrust the public property of Viale Walt Disney for which some private individuals have presented a redevelopment and management project so as to transform it into a sports center and attractive point for the entire neighborhood of Naples Est. In addition to spaces for playing football , volleyball, basketball and padel, in fact, the future center will also offer services for students, young residents and athletes.

The starting point is the definitive project approved by the municipal council led by Gaetano Manfredi in January 2024. It is the proposal of the group formed by the amateur sports association Cercola Calcio fox in synergy with the company LG Invest and the Borroso Società Cooperativa: it provides for the concession and management of the facility for thirty years in addition to the executive design and related works, the subsequent maintenance of the sports center located behind the Incis district, nestled between three schools and the ASL mental health center. The promoters, who enjoy the right of first refusal, have planned an investment of over three million euros of which 2.6 million for the restyling to which technical expenses are added 285 thousand euros50 thousand euros for furnishings and equipment and other expenses.

The eleven-a-side football pitch will be redeveloped and extended to a playing area of ​​100 by 60 metres. A smaller pitch will be refurbished to be used for volleyball and basketball. The other will be replaced by a 60 by 40 meter nine-a-side football pitch. Furthermore, three spaces for padel will be created, served by changing rooms, offices and storage rooms. In the over 20 thousand square meters of the facility, a rehabilitation clinic for the athletes will be built, housed in the former caretaker’s house, and a Club House with relaxation areabar, equipped outdoor space: it is in this point that a non-swimming pool will be built.

The sports facility – which will have parking for 70 vehicles with access from Via Salgari – will wink at the environment with the photovoltaic system to be built on the new changing rooms.

Furthermore, to avoid inconvenience to neighboring schools, sound-absorbing and sound-insulating acoustic barriers will be installed. It takes 370 days to complete all the regeneration works and return the property to the community.

Private individuals, who will be able to recover the sum invested through management, will have to pay an annual fee of 12 thousand euros to Palazzo San Giacomo which has started the tender for the concession, with the project finance formula, of the abandoned Ponticelli plant and degraded for several years, completely unusable. Whoever takes care of the facility will have to open it to pupils from schools in East Naples and encourage the involvement of young people who come from families in difficulty. A real challenge between urban and social regeneration through sport.
