The decision made by Danielle Collins on the women’s circuit is quite surprising: the American tennis player has announced and confirmed on several occasions, including in the last press conference at the Miami Open, that she will retire at the end of this season.
A choice that has created several discussions among enthusiasts, considering the very positive results that the 30-year-old is achieving in this first part of the year. After her latest victory in the quarterfinals against Caroline Garcia, the American vented in front of the media and made some shocking revelations about what is happening to her: “It’s interesting how on many occasions I had to justify my decision to retire , I think if I were a man I wouldn’t have so many questions around me.
I have lived together for many years. with a chronic inflammatory disease that affects me when it comes to getting pregnant. In the end it’s my choice, which goes beyond my tennis career. I’m enjoying the journey, I’m still enjoying myself on the pitch, I love coming here and competing but in the end it was a life-size decision.
I think it should be quite understandable,” he revealed.
From goodbye to progress in recent weeks
“I think about it in very different ways, but not too much. Being a professional athlete wears you out day after day, preparing every routine and maintaining strength.
I don’t have time to think about anything. I’m retiring at the end of the year, that won’t change, although maybe I don’t have as much pressure on me now. I only have a few more tournaments left. I don’t have time to sit and reflect, or delve into my thoughts.
At the moment I feel relaxed, I play more golf, I run more, I go to Pilates… I also do different things.” Furthermore, in front of the media, Collins spoke about what could be the key to his improvements: “I don’t I want to reveal my secrets, I’ve worked on it for a long time throughout my career but the main thing has always been to have more control of my body.”
