Another case of heart problems leading to the interruption of a young career. The message was posted by SD Worx-Protime, the number one team in the world, announcing the stop for Anna Shackley, British cyclist, born in 2001. Here is the text of the post:

«Anna Shackley will leave top-level sport based on the results of numerous medical tests. In January she was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia, subsequently she underwent a cardiac screening at the Maxima Medisch Centrum in Veldhoven in collaboration with the medical team of SD Worx-Protime. Here the British athlete was found to have several irregularities, so the athlete was stopped to carry out more extensive tests and procedures at the Barcelona hospital.

All this time, Shackley did not train or compete: the results of all the tests carried out and the procedures carried out led to the conclusion that the heart problem is not compatible with a high-level sporting career.

«We are very sad that Anna’s cycling career is ending like this – declared the sporting director of the Dutch team Danny Stam -: she was one of the greatest talents of the women’s group. In recent years we saw that she was making good progress and we were convinced that she could reach the top of the world. It is a shame for her that she is forced to stop but at the same time we are also happy that we managed to prevent further complications that could have had serious consequences. We hope that Anna can return to her ‘normal’ life and we will work with the team to see how we can help her.”
