Taulant Malaj, the baker 45-year-old Albanian who yesterday at Torremaggiore (Foggia) killed his 16-year-old daughter and his neighbor (Massimo De Santis, 51, who he believed to be his wife’s alleged lover) made spontaneous statements admitting the double murder. When the military blocked him he still had bloody clothes and had abandoned the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, inside his car.
THE BAKER AND THE (ALLEGATED) BETRAYAL
«My wife admitted that she was having an affair with Massimo. She had apologized to me for this relationship, but I wanted to separate »: she told the prosecutor. According to the story of the baker, in recent days there had been a discussion in the family, always for the alleged betrayal, at the end of which the man had said he wanted to separate. However, his wife persuaded him to stay at home. It seems that Malaj – always according to his story – had discovered his wife several times over time on the third floor of the building, where his alleged lover lived. Yesterday, however, something else would have happened, always according to the story that the alleged murderer gave to the prosecutor. While husband and wife were in bed, the woman allegedly started chatting with someone. The man, suspicious, would have seen the woman’s phone and discovered that she was chatting with her neighbor, Massimo. After a while he left the house and waited for Massimo to come home from the bar. As soon as the man entered the door he stabbed him to death. In fact, Malaj told the prosecutor – the lawyers report – that he had “killed Massimo first”, then that he went up to the house where he began to stab his wife and then his daughter, who was trying to shield her mother. “At that moment, blinded by anger – the defenders report – he did not realize that he was in front of her daughter and started hitting her”. The two lawyers speak of “a strong bond between the confessed offender and his own children”, the 16-year-old and a 5-year-old boy.
The wife in stationary conditions
Meanwhile, the health conditions of Tefta, the 39-year-old Albanian woman, Malaj’s wife, remain stationary. The woman is in a reserved prognosis but her life is not in danger: she was wounded with six stab wounds in the abdomen. When she arrived at the hospital she was in shock, so the doctors had to sedate her. During the day, Tefta could be heard by the carabinieri. Her statements will be fundamental both to try to reconstruct the exact dynamics and the motive of the double homicide. The woman is a housewife, but she occasionally works as a carer for some elderly people in the village. The two have been married for 17 years.

Last December the man was hired as a baker in the bakery “Latartare” in Torremaggiore. «He always worked even when he had finished his shift, he never stopped. It was all work and family», colleagues say when speaking to journalists.
Subsequently Malaj, after admitting his responsibilities for the double homicide, perhaps in the grip of the confused state he was in, repeatedly asked about his daughter: “How is Gessica, is she okay?”. Taulant Malaj’s 5-year-old son saved himself by hiding behind the sofa in the living room. According to what we learn, the killer was very attached to his little son: the numerous photos published with the child on his Facebook profile testify to this. Saturday night, after the massacre, the first to arrive at the house – according to what we learn – would have been the brother of the confessed murderer and his sister-in-law. It would have been the two of them who found the child hidden behind the sofa. The latter, when the carabinieri arrived, was in the arms of his uncles in an evident state of shock. The baby was entrusted to the couple. Furthermore, to ascertain the existence of the alleged extramarital relationship and the exchange of messages on a chat between the wife of the murderer and the victim, the investigators of the Arma have seized the mobile phones of the woman, her husband and her daughter.
