Temperatures will drop in the next few days and the great heat that is still enveloping much of the country will be destined to come to a real stop, at least in the Northern and Central regions.

Italy is about to end a period characterized by extreme temperatures, unusual for the month of June. This heat wave affected the entire national territory, with temperature peaks above 40°C in the southern regions and conditions of high humidity and a very muggy climate in the Centre-North, causing considerable discomfort to the population.
This episode of intense heat in June highlights the importance of carefully monitoring these extreme heat phenomena, which have become increasingly frequent in recent years.

The African anticyclone “Minos”, responsible for this anomalous climate scenario, is now collapsing under the pressure of a cyclone system coming from the United Kingdom. The latter is introducing cooler air masses, accompanied by a storm front, towards the northern regions.
Already the first step of the weekend will see a Saturday 22 capable of offering us the beginning of a gradual improvement in air quality in the North.
Sunday 23However, again in the Northern regions, a clear drop in maximum temperatures is expected with decreases of up to 10°C compared to the previous days.
We also expect a moderate temperature drop in the central regions, while in the South, despite the heat becoming less aggressive, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily will continue to record rather high temperatures.
The beginning of the coming week will be characterized by the presence of a cold drop across Italy which will cause unstable weather conditions in the North and part of the Centre. The cool currents from the North-West will keep temperatures at values more suited to the season in these areas, with a moderate temperature drop also expected in the South.
In summary, within 24-48 hours there will be a notable climate change, moving from an exceptionally hot and highly muggy context to more pleasant conditions in line with seasonal averages, at least in the central-northern regions.
When will the great heat return?
If everything is confirmed, a resumption of African high pressure and a consequent return of heat across the entire country is expected at the end of next week, although we must wait for further confirmations before resolving the prognosis.
