An authentic nightmare that she experienced as a woman in Rome, chased on the street by a foreigner and then raped by the same person once they enter their condominium. The investigations conducted by the police led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator, a 32-year-old originally from Georgia, but the episode once again brought attention to the precarious security conditions facing the capital.
The reconstruction
According to what was reported by the investigators, the incident occurred in the late afternoon of Sunday 9 June. The victim was returning to his home, located in via Caracciolo, a short distance from the Vatican Walls, when she was joined by the Georgian. The latter immediately tried to strike up a conversation, speaking vulgar words to the woman and making her the object of advances very explicit. Frightened, the woman rejected the subject and hurried to reach her home. The molester, however, had no intention of letting her go.
Having arrived at her condominium, the victim did not have time to reach the condominium wash area, and was immediately grabbed by the 32-year-old, who had followed her. The young woman didn’t have a chance. Taking advantage of the situation, the stranger raped her and then run away and lose their tracks. The victim later managed to ask for help. The police were informed of the case and immediately took action trace back manager.
The arrest
The agents of the Prati police station took care of the investigations. Thanks to the careful verification of the images extrapolated from the surveillance cameras present in the area, the investigators managed to identify the person responsible.
The attacker was in fact identified and then reached by the police, who arrested him on charges of sexual violence.
In these hours the arrest was validated by the judge, who accepted the request of the prosecutor’s office. The 32-year-old Georgian, recognized by the victim, ended up behind bars prison.
