Italian double in the 100 meters final of the European Championships in Rome: gold for the Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs in 10″02, silver for the other Italian Chituru Ali. “I had a bit of fatigue in my calves, I felt that they were starting to close in a little : I expected to run faster but the important thing is to leave here as a European champion. Now we continue to work, I knew that I would not arrive in the best conditions of the year but I am very happy for this medal”. Thus Marcell Jacobs immediately after the gold won. Then, on the rivalry with teammate Chituru Ali, the Italian sprinter underlines to be “happy that we are both here, we will stake our future. He wanted the gold but as long as I’m there I’ll try to stop him”, underlines Jacobs. Then a thought on the national team and on his own contribution to the Italian cause: “From Tokyo onwards you can see that something has changed, we take to the field with the balls and we deserve to have this medal table. My results? Normally it takes time to assimilate everything, we could have done something better, but we can work and therefore improve”, he concludes.
The blue medals

The Italian Mattia Furlani won the silver medal in the long jump competition at the European Championships in Rome, with a measurement of 8.38. Gold goes to the Olympic champion, the Greek Miltiades Tentoglu, with 8.65. Bronze goes to the Swiss Simon Ehammer (8.31).

Jacobs will take to the track again, together with the other Italian champions for the men’s 4×100 metres, Tuesday 11 June at 12. And again, in case of victory, he will compete the following day, Wednesday 12 June at 10.50pmfor the final.
