French Elections, Latest Polls: Le Pen Close to Absolute Majority

The National Rally (RN), Marine Le Pen’s party, widely favored in the legislative elections on Sunday, June 29 and July 7, should collect 36% of the votes according to an Elabe poll for BFM TV and La Tribune Dimanche, published on Friday, June 28. The New Popular Front is trailing (27.5%) and is increasing its distance from Macron’s supporters (20%), who would lose 140 seats in the National Assembly out of a current total of 250.

The polls

With two days to go until the first round, Marine Le Pen’s far right is not only heading for a large relative majority, but is now close to an absolute one. The Republicans are at 9%. Elabe’s projection in seats sees the RN between 260 and 295 seats for the first time (out of a total of 577, an absolute majority starting from 289), the New Popular Front between 155 and 175, and Macron’s Ensemble between 85 and 105. The polling institute warns that the projections must be read with caution, since the composition of the candidates in each of the 577 constituencies for the second round is not yet known and is also the result of forecasts on the results of the first round.
