The explosive depletion of funds for 100% electric cars within a few hours of the opening of reservations on the ministry’s platform leaves observers perplexed. How is it possible that everything happened in just a few hours, that in less than a day the resources (over 201 million euros) allocated to cars in the 0-20 g/km CO2 emission range were exhausted? It actually seems very strange and the president of Federauto, Massimo Artusi, expresses strong doubts, which echo those of many analysts.

«We express – says Artusi – strong doubts about the exhaustion, which occurred in a few hours, of the ecobonus funds for bookings relating to the CO2 range from 0 to 20 grams/km, in practice exclusively electric traction vehicles».

«If, on the one hand, we could – continues the president of the Italian Federation of Car Dealers – be pleased with the immediate and consistent response towards this type of car», added Artusi, «we cannot fail to note that the outcome is diametrically opposite to the market’s responses to the 2022 and 2023 Ecobonuses, which had left huge residues among the resources allocated to this type of vehicle, which has always encountered strong difficulties in acceptance by buyers”.

“It’s obvious”, said the president of Federauto, that until the entry into force of the new Prime Ministerial Decree, the absorption capacity in the 0-20 range, i.e. essentially electric cars, has always been modest, so much so as to highlight a surplus of resources of around 170 million just a few days after the new ecobonuses came into force. Moreover, this sales trend for low-emission vehicles is confirmed by empirical evidence from the market.

To try to understand what happened and why, Federauto asks that the competent administrations urgently investigate this phenomenon which we consider absolutely anomalous and, probably, not in line with the rationale of the law which is to favor citizens and businesses, while they themselves are at risk, the authentic recipients of the measure, to end up cut off from the benefit to bring them closer to the green transition.
