Sale of Kaio Jorge to Cruzeiro: Santos, a lawsuit against Juve?

Juve could be dragged to court by Brazilians Santos. This is what a club press release announces, regarding the recent sale of Kaio Jorge, a product of the Santos academy, to Cruzeiro who purchased him for seven million euros.

Santos’ legal department has therefore advised both clubs of the possibility of initiating proceedings with FIFA and is now awaiting the response from Juve and Cruzeiro. The crux lies in a clause present in the young striker’s transfer agreement from Santos to the Juventus club (in August 2021), according to which the Brazilian club should have been informed in the event of a subsequent sale of the player, boasting a pre-emption right in the event of an equal offer.

Juventus had officially announced on their website the transfer of Kaio Jorge to Cruzeiro on 11 June 2024. At the same time, the Minas Gerais club confirmed the operation through official channels. “At no time was Santos informed of the negotiation – reads the Santos statement – or consulted regarding its interest in reacquiring the player”. Another legal problem is therefore looming for Juve.
