The best-selling smartphones of 2024 so far

The well-known market research company Counterpoint Research has released the data relating to best-selling smartphones so far in 2024. updated to the first quarter of the year. It is not surprising to once again find a clear dominance of iPhones, which monopolize the first four places and place two other models in a top ten shared only with Samsung, as has already happened in the past. However, there is no shortage of news: now in first place is the most expensive and advanced iPhoneor 15 Pro Max starting from 1489 euros, while the best-selling model with Android operating system is another very expensive flagship like Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which starts from 1449 euros.

The rankings span the entire period until the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2024 and represent a reliable overview of the best-selling smartphones globally. Seven of the ten most popular models are top of the range or, in any case, high-end with a starting cost well above 600 euros, while only three are more affordable, namely the trio Samsung Galaxy A15 (the cheapest, 249.90 euros)A54 and A34, but it is significant that all ten smartphones are already ready to connect to 5G networks of a new generation and it is the first time this has happened.

Here are the top 10:

  1. iPhone 15 Pro Max
  2. iPhone 15
  3. iPhone 15 Pro
  4. iPhone 14
  5. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
  6. Samsung Galaxy A15 5G
  7. Samsung Galaxy A54
  8. iPhone 15 Plus
  9. Samsung Galaxy S24
  10. Samsung Galaxy A34

Compared to the same fiscal period last year (see image), the most advanced model of the latest generation presented is now in first place, while in 2023 the standard iPhone 14 dominatedwhich is now fourth (just like what happened 12 months ago with the iPhone 13). The overtaking of flagships is also clear among Androidsgiven that last year the S23 Ultra was sixth, just behind the budget model A13, while now the A15 5G follows in the wake of the S24 Ultra. It worsens the position of the Plus model of iPhone, which last year was seventh, while this year it is eighth: yet more proof (if any were still needed), that in the poker of Apple smartphones, the Plus model is the one that excites the least. Finally, it is worth noting how there are no other brands in the top 10 apart from Apple and Samsung.
