The new evacuation order arrived from the Israeli army and headed to the population of the eastern neighborhoods of Rafahin the south of Gaza Strip, has thrown hundreds of thousands of people into despair, already displaced several times from their homes or shelters. Many had pinned their hopes on talks in Cairo. “We were hoping that something might happen in the negotiations for the cease-firethat some of it could finally arrive peace” says an operator Oxfam in Gaza, in an audio testimony. “And instead a new order arrived to leave their homes. I see people who they dismantle their tents in desperation and in the uncertainty of where to go. They run through the streets, some in pickup trucks, some in donkey carts.” One and a half million people have taken refuge in Rafah, living there in dramatic and precarious conditions. An appeal addressed to governments not to be “accomplices to the continuous violations of international lawfulfilling their legal obligations and ensuring a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible.”
