“Because of the beyond 3.5 millions of infections and at least 1,000 deaths, the American continent is about to register in 2024 there worst epidemic of dengue fever in history”: he reports it the Pan American Health Organization. The health agency highlights how in the first three months of the year cases increased, reaching a number three times higher to that recorded in the same period of 2023. 80% approximately of those infected by the virus carried by mosquitoes is concentrated in Brazil. In the 2023 furthermore – the organization recalls – the region of Americas reported the highest number of Dengue cases since being counted, with 4.5 millions of infected people, included 7,665 serious cases e 2,363 deaths. In the 2024 the region records a new record: beyond 3 million cases per March 25. Most were reported in Brazil (the81% of cases), followed by Paraguay (6%)Argentina (3.4%), Peru (2.6%) and Colombia (2.2%).

In the published report, Paho highlights that the incidence of the disease has increased by 249% compared to last year and 354% compared to the average of the last ones 5 years. Cases of dengue fever have been reported in 18 countries of the continent, but Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay are by far the most affected countries. From the March 27 there have been confirmed cases in Brazil 2,323,150 equal to an incidence of 1,144 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants and with at least 830 dead. In Paraguay, however, the number of dengue cases recorded so far this year is 23 times higher than that recorded in the same period last year, rising from approximately 6,900 thousand infections of 2023 to the 160,900 of the 2024. In the same comparison, Argentina saw a jump from 8,300 to 102,800 cases. They were recorded in the two countries respectively 43 And 69 deaths from the disease.
