Mick Jagger E Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones have been sued for infringement of the copyright by an Argentinian artist Sergio Garcia Fernandezknown by the stage name of Angelslang, who claims that the song released by the British band in 2020 Living in a ghost towncontains some fragments of two of his previous songs recorded in 2006 and 2007, entitled respectively So Sorry And Seed of God. As reported by Billboard, the lawsuit claims that the Rolling Stones “misappropriated many recognizable and copyrighted elements” of the two songs by Garcia Fernandez. In particular, the artist claims that the Stones have plagiarized “vocal melodies, chord progressions, drum parts, harmonica, bass parts, rhythm and other important elements” from So Sorrywhile the «harmonic and chord progression, and melody» from Seed of God. But how would the alleged plagiarism arise? Fernandez stated that he gave a demo of some of his songs to “a close relative” of Jagger and according to his lawyers “the next relative confirmed receipt to the plaintiff via e-mail”, adding that the members of the group ” they would have liked the songs, and would also have been interested in using their style and music». Furthermore, as reported by Fernandez’s lawyers, “the defendants (Jagger and Richards) have never paid the plaintiff, nor have they obtained authorization” for the use of the two songs or some parts of them. Among the documents filed by the prosecution, however, the copy of the alleged e-mail sent by a relative of Mick Jagger, relating to the receipt of the Angelslang songs, would be missing. At this time, no comments on the alleged plagiarism have been received from Jagger and Richards and their legal and record representatives.
