Between the theater and the cinema which constantly argue, there is a third party which enjoys it. Music, rap, what he listened to as a child. His pen began to lose ink, pierced by life which made him continually change direction without even asking his permission. This new path, the musical one, seems unexpected: with his single, out today, it is linked to an alter ego of his. The word has Greek origins and means primordial. This, his journey, will be a journey to recognize himself and at the same time continue to lose himself inexorably.
It’s finally time for a vacation. Nicolò Ayroldi books a flight for the holidays, he’s about to leave but suddenly gets stuck in a plane that will soon reveal itself as “A one-way flight to hell”. The pilot of the plane is his alter ego, Proteus, a metaphor for his incessant artistic and existential metamorphosis that has often led him to change the guise of his thoughts, in line with his personal experience. Cheated by the company “Influenzer” that will ferry him into a hell made of tsunamis of words instead of clouds and a beat that will create continuous turbulence, Nicolò can do nothing but accept his impending end by looking disgusted at the reality of the contemporary world that surrounds him.
Like Alex’s eye from A Clockwork Orange, forced open, Nicolò, like everyone else, is forced to observe and receive millions of different inputs from social media and cannot back out. The numbers are those who drive the works of art and in 2024; it seems that only numbers can bring a human being to glory by opening the doors to success. A success that most of the time can be considered ephemeral. It all started with a slam poetry project in Rome, where he found the inspiration to take this new path.
The language adopted by Proteus is mocking, irreverent, immoral and rude. He considers himself an Influencer hunter to eliminate them once and for all. Through his rhymes and assonances, to the sound of rap and hip-hop culture, Proteo exorcises Nicolò Ayroldi’s fear and discomfort in living in this artistic world contaminated by megalomania and those few seconds of fame that can change the life of a human being.
«There is a lot of me and my writing in this piece – he comments – because my pen inevitably takes inspiration from the other genres I have tried so far, from stand-up comedy to cinema, passing through theatre. In this project I collaborated with the Molfetta musician Corrado Murolo, aka Kuoni, whom I thank because with his beat he was fundamental in the creation of this single which represents a further face of my artistic self, always in the attempt to find my place in this very complex world.” And his first EP will also be available soon, so the advice is to stay connected so as not to miss the evolution of his musical parable.
