The rumors of the last few weeks have been confirmed: Warner Bros. Discovery has chosen the creative team that will handle the series Harry Pottercoming to HBO in 2026.

Francesca Gardiner, who has written for series such as Succession and His Dark Materials, will manage the writing of the scripts and lead the entire series as showrunner. Mark Mylod will instead be director and executive producer: Mylod has directed important episodes of Game of Thrones and won two Emmys for directing two episodes of Succession. Not only that: he directed some episodes of the second season of The Last of Us and directed the film The Menu.

JK Rowling’s commentary

The author commented on the news like this:

I’m really excited to announce our director and screenwriter: as part of the production team, I met and vetted both of them. They have a genuine passion for Harry Potter, and having read Francesca’s pilot script and listened to Mark’s vision, I am confident that the series will go far beyond expectations.

The series, currently in development, will be a faithful adaptation of JK Rowling’s novels and will have a new cast. Warner Bros. Television and Rowling’s Brontë Film will be producing, as well as David Heyman’s Heyday Films, which oversaw the production of the films.
