Interpreted by Gian Maria Volonté in the role of editor-in-chief Giancarlo Bizanti, Throw the monster on the front page “tells a story that goes through a series of real events – wrote Gian Piero Brunetta in his History of Italian Cinema – which shook the conscience of the country in those years. They range from references to early terrorist episodes, such as the bombs at the Milan trade fair in 1969, or crime news (the death of Milena Sutter) to episodes of urban guerrilla warfare or traumatic events such as the Piazza Fontana massacre, the death of anarchist Pinelli, or that of the publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli”. A film, continues Brunetta, which has “the ability to convey to us the sense of social tension of rising ideological temperature and of blind and no-holds-barred struggle between the various organised, institutional and spontaneous forces”.
Throw the monster on the front pagewritten by Sergio Donati And Goffredo Fofi (interested in telling “the functioning of power within the mass media starting from a case of political manipulation”), was restored by the Cineteca di Bologna, in collaboration with Surf Film, Kavac Film and Minerva Pictures, under the supervision of the same Looker; the original scene and sound negatives were digitized by Augustus Color and restored at the L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory.
