Sometimes a certain complicity is created between the actors on the set, and they help each other: it had happened to Christian Bale and Tom Hardy while they were spinning The Dark Knight Risesbecause they made a specific sign during takes to give each other lines.
In Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film there are several clashes between the Bat-Man and Bane, clashes which for example see a lot of background noise given by the set in which they filmed (the prison for example) or a large number of people around the villain and hero while they fight in the final fight.
All this obviously led to different noise during the takes, given that the final duel scene was very excited, complicating the work of Christian Bale and Tom Hardy, who struggled to understand when the other had finished his line (considering that Hardy was also acting with a mask covering his face). The two had therefore studied their own form of communication, because when Nolan gave them the go-ahead they couldn’t hear each other. Christian Bale would then say his line and then extend his index fingerso Tom Hardy understood that it was his turn and did the same thing.
“We were quite discreet in doing so” Christian Bale had said on the Heart radio show “hoping you don’t see it in the film when we stretch out our fingers”.
