Years after the release of The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan’s brother revealed that Riddler must also have been among Batman’s villains.
Years after the cinema release of The Dark Knight Risesthird chapter of the trilogy on Batman Of Christopher Nolanhis brother Jonathan revealed that another villain historical Gotham vigilante was supposed to appear in the film. During a recent interview with Happy, Sad, ConfusedJosh Horowitz’s podcast, Jonathan Nolanwho worked on the film as a producer, said that theRiddler he should have appeared in the third film, but in the end they chose not to use the character of Edward Nygma and for a very specific reason:
“I started playing with ideas about the Riddler and what could be done with that character. But I felt like it was pretty close to the space we had already touched on with Heath [Ledger]and that it was necessary… to move there”
Inserting a character whose vibes would have recalled Heath Ledger’s unsurpassed Joker would therefore have been a risk, also given the success with the public and the critical acclaim that Legder obtained in 2008. And turning to a completely different villain, like Tom Hardy’s Bane, proved to be a winning choice. Banein fact, in the comics he is a formidable opponent of Batman and he’s the only one who gives him a hard time from several points of view. If Joker was uncontrollable chaos, Bane’s analytical mind could rival that of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Furthermore, the character ofRiddler became the main opponent in The Batman by Matt Reeves, the thriller-tinged comic book that relaunched the figure of the Bat Man after the trilogy of Nolan. Played by Paul Dano in the film, theRiddler was able to wreak havoc in Gotham, forcing the Batman Of Robert Pattinson to raise the stakes to be able to bring him to justice.
