2024 has already tried to terrorize us with the various Night Swim, Imaginary and Omen – The origin of the omen, with results not always up to expectations. Well, we are only at the beginning: the current year has in store numerous interesting titles for lovers of the horror genre.
In the aftermath of the release of the first official trailer for MaXXXine, we remind you that the third chapter of the saga created by Ti West is expected in theaters on July 5, 2024. In this film set in 1985, we will discover what becomes of Maxine after she escapes from the terrible massacre that took place on the Texan farm at the center of the previous works. To stay on the “sequel” theme, 2024 will also be the year of Smile 2, whose release is scheduled for October 18: director Parker Finn is maintaining maximum confidentiality about the plot of this new work, a sequel to the horror film released in 2022. Will the new chapter replicate the success of its predecessor? There also remains the curiosity to find out whether, once the surprise effect of the first film has worn off, an equally successful promotional campaign will be launched, capable of renewing the public’s interest.
The release of, however, is set for July 31st Trap, new feature film by M. Night Shyamalan, starring Josh Hartnett. In addition to the fact that the film will have to do with the world of music, we also know that it will not be a real horror film, but a psychological thriller: having said this, it is now known that the stylistic features of the two genres often tend and willing to overlap in the works of this brilliant author. The first, enthusiastic, critical reactions to Abigail they leave us with hope: the story revolves around a group of kidnappers, who will find themselves having to deal with an unexpected threat. Little Abigail, in fact, is very different from what she seems. The film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be released in theaters on May 16th.
Finally, we close with Late Night With the Devil: although the Italian release date of the film has not been announced (on which we will keep you updated), it is worth mentioning this film, which is inevitably destined to capture the attention of lovers of the genre. Made with the found-footage technique, the Cairnes brothers’ film revolves around a particularly “shocking” episode of a late-night talk show. As we saw from the trailer for Late Night With the Devil, in fact, the Halloween special orchestrated by host Jack Delroy will take a very, very bad turn.
