Without respect there is no competition. In life, as well as in the world of sport.
It just comes from two great champions of basketball and motorcycling like Marco Belinelli and Andrea Dovizioso the message against violence against women, the heart of the communication campaign that Emilia-Romagna Region launches on the occasion of November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women of the United Nations.
“Every sport has its rules, but there is one that applies to everyone: there is no competition without respect”, this is the message transmitted by the captain of Virtus Segafredo Bolognahe, Belinelli, and by the 125 class world champion, Dovizioso. Two exceptional testimonials who have agreed to commit themselves alongside the Region, to convey an invitation to responsibility and respect. Two successful protagonists of the world of sport who turn to other men, starting from the youngest, to raise awareness of a drama – violence against women – which in our country is assuming ever more dramatic proportions.
In Emilia-Romagna, according to the data processed by the Regional Observatory on gender-based violence, 4,934 women contacted an anti-violence center in 2021: over 300 more than the 4,614 in 2020. While there are 1,667 calls to the number 1522 of the National Department for Equal Opportunities (1,606 in 2020), of which 994 from women victims of violence or stalking (913 in 2020).
The number of women guests of shelters is also growing, mainly foreign: 320 in 2021 against 301 the previous year. And those welcomed in an anti-violence center: 2,646 (2,335 in 2020).
An initial preview of 2022, limited however to 16 Centers, reveals that between January and May 1,749 women made contact with an anti-violence center, while calls to 1522 were 370 between January and March of this year, of which 191 from victims of violence or stalking.
A commitment that of the Region at 360 degreesfrom ban against gender-based violence – released last November 4th and for which it is possible to apply until December 2nd – which makes available to local authorities, social promotion associations, voluntary organizations, non-profit organizations 2.5 million euros in the two-year period 2023-2024 for projects which focus primarily on prevention.
Among the most innovative measures freedom income, a tool to support the economic independence of women victims of violence and therefore the concrete possibility of moving on, thanks to the disbursement of a monthly allowance of up to 400 euros for a maximum period of one year. Resources of 1.3 million euros are available for 2022, with which the Region significantly supplements the national allocation, bringing the resources available in Emilia-Romagna to 1.5 million euros.
