NutriBullet Treviso Basket succeeds in conquering the Itelyum Arena of Varese, in the survival clash with Openjobmetis (the hosts are however arithmetically safe).

The news.

Coach Bialaszewski proposes the starting quintet composed of Mannion, Moretti, McDermott, Brown and Spencer, while coach Vitucci replies with Robinson, Bowman, Harrison, Olisevicius and Paulicap.

First quarter.

The guests made a sprint start, led by Harrison and Paulicap who scored a score of 0-6. Mannion takes Varese by the hand from long range, trying to rebalance the match (5-12). Moretti places a heavy basket from afar, to which Treviso promptly responds with shots from Bowman and Olisevicius which increase the lead to +12, until Gilmore and Moretti take the lead (12-22). Mannion tries to shake up his teammates, before free throws from Ulaneo and Gilmore close the gap to a small extent. The first period of Varese-Treviso ends 19-31.

Second quarter.

Olisevicius and Paulicap continue to dictate the law in the opponent’s paint, but McDermott responds, for Openjobmetis with six points in a row, putting the Lombard team back on the trail, returning to under the double-digit deficit, at 30-37. Treviso however, with points from Olisevicius, Allen and Harrison update the score to 35-48, with coach Bialaszewski forced to ask for a time out which has its effects: Mannion scores seven points in a row, but Allen with a another triple puts Treviso ahead by +12 (44-56). Mannion responds to Harrison from the line and we go to the long interval of Varese-Treviso at 49-58.

Third fourth.

Bowman and Harrison continue to score points, but Mannion is not there and with one of his long-range baskets he manages to contain the distance between Varese and Treviso (57-64). Subsequently the match becomes nervous, with Openjobmetis which, thanks to the heavy baskets of Moretti and McDermott and the support of Besson on the scoreboard, gets even closer: 67-69. The hosts, however, were unable to find the equalizer, with Allen, Zanelli and Robinson scoring points. All this before Gilmore, with the offensive rebound, ends the period at 74-77.

Last quarter.

The score of the last period broke the deadlock after about 2′, with a bomb from Allen and the response with a dunk from Gilmore. Back and forth between Olisevicius and Besson with triples, one each, followed by a tap-in by Mezzanotte for 79-85 with 6′ to go. Spencer’s dunk means Varese -4, but Robinson and Bowman increase the distance, despite Spencer’s prompt reply from the paint. A remarkable triple by Harrison means it’s 85-93, but Mannion in penetration and Moretti from the arc close it to -3. Then Robinson is cold from the line and updates to 90-95 with 60″ to go. Varese doesn’t give in an inch, McDermott in fact scores yet another personal bomb. On the opposite side, however, Bowman responds with an equally heavy basket at the end of the 24″ to virtually close the game. Mannion tries with a dunk, but his own mistake forces Varese to surrender. In the end Harrison scores three possessions from the line and 95-100 is the final result of Varese-Treviso.
