«They said the same about the western»

The so-called really exists superhero fatigue? The term, which indicates a certain “tiredness” on the part of the public towards the genre cinecomichas been much debated in recent times, especially due to the mixed results (if not exactly disastrous, in some cases) of the latest Marvel and DC films.

For example, Disney CEO Bob Iger and MCU star Chris Evans have spoken out on the topic, launching into a speech in “defense” of the House of Ideas. Speaking to GamesRadar+, too the Russo brothersauthors of some of the cinecomic most loved than “Golden Era” of Marvelthey wanted to have their say.

According to Anthony Russo, we can talk about general “tiredness” of the publicbut not certain of superhero fatigue real. The director argued thus, referring to a genre widely practiced in the cinema of the past, the western: «The issue of superhero fatigue was already being talked about before our work. It’s a sort of eternal complaint, even when we started working with comic films this term was mentioned. They said the same about Western movies, but then they went on for decades and decades. They were continually reinvented and always reached new heights as the genre progressed.”

Joe Russo, however, expressed a more general reflection on the cinema industry and the profound changes brought about byadvent of streamingwhich would have created confusion and perhaps disaffection among viewers: «We are in a period of transition and people do not yet know how they will consume stories from now on, or even what types of stories they want. There is a generational difference in how content is consumed. There is a generation that is used to going to the cinema on a certain date to see something, but this is now becoming obsolete. Meanwhile, the new generations are like, “I want this content now, in this moment,” and they immediately move on to the next medium, or do two things at once. Everyone, including Marvel, is going through this transition period. And I think that the real problem is this, more than anything else.”

What do you think? Do you agree with the two directors or do you think that overall the problem lies in the film genre cinecomic?
