“L’Altro Teatro Review – On Stage Metropol”, on stage in Corigliano-Rossano “Separated… but not too much”

“A title tending towards the oxymoron suggests a story that travels on the razor’s edge between love and hate, between passion and revenge between complicity and spite between two former couples – says Paolo Caiazzo -. The attempt to recover a marital relationship leads the four to clumsy and ambiguous behaviors which develop a tight and irresistible comedy. It is a story of loves lost and found again with the help of a crazy neighbor, who however is unable to cope with the unpredictability of her heart. An irreverent comedy but at the same time respectful of the feelings of those experiencing the difficulties of a past marriage. Two hours of healthy laughter to address a modern-day problem with my usual style: light-heartedness but not banality.”

In fact, the comedy tells of the difficulty of Giulio, a fifty-year-old, who abandons the marital home; he separates and is forced to ask for hospitality from Nicola, separated for some time, who occupies an apartment owned by his neighbor Carmela, who probably has psychological disorders. The new style of bachelors galvanizes the two, making them close-knit and complicit in dealing with their former partners, but after an initial period of euphoria, the two take on a slower and more sober rhythm like any de facto couple. In an attempt to treat themselves to a transgressive evening, they accept a blind date with two women they met on Tinder. They soon discover that they have hooked up with their exes. The evening takes an unexpectedly pleasant turn but the women show attraction to each other’s ex-husband. The defects of one appear to be advantages for the other and vice versa, thus discovering crossed affinities. In total confusion, rivalry, and newfound jealousy, the two men are unable to manage the anomalous situation until they find themselves faced with an unhealthy proposal: The exchange of… ex-couples! Will they accept?

The show is directed by Paolo Caiazzo who wrote it together with Francesco Procopio.

The “L’Altro Teatro – On Stage Metropol Review”, curated by Gianluigi Fabiano and Giuseppe Citrigno, is created in collaboration with the Cinema Teatro Metropol and thanks to the contribution of the municipal administration of Corigliano Rossano. The AltroTeatro is part of the distribution project, co-financed with “PSC Development and Cohesion Plan resources provided as a result of the “Theatrical Distribution Programs” Notice of the Calabria Region – Department of Education, Training and Equal Opportunities – Culture Sector”.

Grand finale on May 9th with the irreverent comedy by Dario Fo and Franca Rame “Open couple…almost wide open” with Chiara Francini and Alessandro Federico. A tragicomic fairy tale that tells what it means to be in a couple. Fo and Rame describe perfectly with funny, but also dramatic tones, telling the differences between male and female psychology. As ironic as she is and as sensual as she wants, Chiara Francini is an eclectic artist, a volcano of charisma and vitality, with important roles on the small and big screen. Here she puts herself to the test with an important text, which celebrates the role of women within the couple.
