The Province of Arezzo celebrate Saturday July 6 in the San Donato Terrace the poet Francesco Petrarca, with an evening of music and poetry by title : “Poetry in the open air. Petrarca meets contemporary poets”. The initiative, curated bythe writer and poet Lucrezia Lombardo, was promoted by the President of the Province of Arezzo Alessandro Polcri and by the Provincial Councilor Simon Pietro Palazzo delegate not merterritorial keting, tourism and culture.

President Polcri and Councilor Palazzo declare:

The name of Francesco Petrarca, as you know is linked to Arezzo and to the entire provincial territory, since he had it right here born on July 20, 1304 with a intense life marked by meetings and trips. The Terrazza San Donato of the Palazzo della Provincia, once again hosts like an open-air lounge, an event of substance to pay homage to one of the most illustrious poets in the history of humanity, who right here in this part of the walls, took his first steps together with Dante Alighieri and Giovanni Boccaccio, writing the history of the Italian language and literature. A language that has united all Italians, and with this spirit the Province wants to unite all the Municipalities that belong to this territory. With these events we hope that the Provinicia entity will return to having a central role also in cultural and tourist policies, with financial, political and elective autonomy directly from the citizens. We would like to thank the curator of the event Lucrezia Lombardo and all the artists for the evening dedicated to Petrarca, enriched by music and to enjoy all together the beautiful view that the Terrazza San Donato offers.”

In a historical moment like today’s, – declares the writer and poet Lucrezia Lombardo – marked by violence and instability, poetry constitutes, as never before, a necessary nourishment because it is capable of generating beauty. Petrarch, in fact, was the first to sing of the self and its troubled and contradictory feelings, thus inaugurating Humanism and starting an existentialist perspective, which investigates questions of meaning. The same questions for which contemporary man, uprooted and alone, is hungry. And verses constitute, therefore, the privileged way to rediscover lost meaning and hope. With this spirit, “Poesia a cielo aperto. Petrarca incontra i poeti contemporanei”, does not want to be simply a poetry reading, but a moment in which each of those present can have access to a dimension of light and rediscovered beauty.”

L’idea so it is that to put Petrarch’s verses in dialogue with the compositions of some of the major contemporary poets working in the area, che hanno behind him an important literary production. They will be thenthe poetesses were guests of the event Lucrezia Lombardo, Carla Malerba, Patrizia Fazzi, Fabrizia Fabbroni and the poet Elio Lenzi, who will interpret their lyrics with the musical accompaniment of Francesco Lenzi, who composed ad hoc songs for the occasion. The narrator will host the evening Propizia Capaccioliwho will read and interpret some of Petrarca’s most famous verses.

The poetry of contemporaries will thus be compared to some of the most beautiful sonnets of Petrarchan’s “Il Canzoniere”: the poetic reading will open with the choral reading with musical background of the famous lyric “Chiare, frescoes et sweet waters”, to conclude with a reading surprisingly, it is also taken from Petrarca’s production.

The event, with free access upon reservation, by sending a message/whatsapp to the telephone number 347-9946608, will begin at 6 pm with access at the Palazzo della Provincia di Arezzo, from Piazza della Libertà 3.
