MODENA “The railway line Modena-Sassuolo – the train renamed as Gigetto – will be closed for the entire route for another two months, from 6 July to 8 September 2024”: the news was given by the Consumer Federation.

“The service, as in the recent past, will be carried out with replacement buses which will increase travel times and will not be able to guarantee the transport of accompanying bicycles. The term of‘break is expected in time for the resumption of school activities. On this occasion the closure was motivated by FER, owner of the infrastructure for the Emilia-Romagna Region, with the need to install the Train Control System (SCMT), a necessary safety condition for the National Agency for Railway Safety to overcome line speed limitations”.

An eventuality that Federconsumatori welcomes “with great perplexity as in the face of the necessary and appreciated interventions that guarantee greater safety conditions for all users, it is implemented once again with a long interruption of service, not necessary for similar works on the RFI sections. A further blow to post-pandemic recovery to the detriment of sustainable public transport, a child now orphaned by too many fathers”.

The news, among other things, comes a few days after the protest of some citizens of Modena “locked in their homes” from the little train that takes commuters from Modena to Sassuolo and back.
